ChamonixViewCamera
Chamonix 4X10 cameras are primarily disigned for outdoor landscape use. The camsras are made with maple/walnut and light-weight and high density carbon fiber. The later is mainly used for the camera base plates to ensure the stability and rigidity of the cameras.
This is half of 8X10 format. It is very suitable for sweeping landscapes and environmental portraiture. It is close to the cinematic ratio of 1:2.5 which gives the viewer a very pleasing visual impact.
Because of this unique character, Chamonix makes horizontal only 4X10 cameras with Linhoff front standard to further reduce the weight. Chamonix can make the front standard to take Acra-Swiss lens board.
Chamonix 4X10 cameras are handmade following very strict procedures. All wood parts are hand polished and hand painted. Each coat of paint is applied to the wood and let it naturally dry and another coat of paint is applied. THis prodedure is repeated 12 times and lasts 40 days. The wood polish and painting job requires a total 90 days.
The metal part of Chamonix 4X10 camera is anodized aluminum with black finish. The wood choices are Candian maple and black walnut. Different wood will cause a slight different weight of the cameras.
There are two types of 4X10 cameras. The difference is the "N" model has no metal side arms connecting camera back and the base, "W" model has that metal arm.
